EVENT OVERVIEW

This was a great suggestion that I received from Karen (thanks, gal!) to give an overview of the Tampa Bay Classic, especially for those attending for the first time. The event is once again at the fabulous DoubleTree Hotel. Call me if you have any trouble booking a room. There is a free five minute shuttle from the airport - just use the phone by the baggage area to call the hotel to come pick you up. There are some great shopping malls nearby and the pool at the hotel is wonderful for a quick break. We are very much looking forward to seeing you soon in Tampa - the weather is gorgeous that time of year - I promise!!

The theme is MEXICAN FIESTA so we hope to see some fabulous costumes and colorful attire. A schedule for the workshops ----- who will be teaching what ---- will be out for you to peruse at least a week before the event. This way you can plan ahead what you want to take. At this event you may enter and leave the workshop rooms at any point in time. If you want to take the first dance in one room and the second dance in another - you can certainly do that. All workshops are free - we do not believe in paid workshops. And we have tried to keep the registration and all fees as low as possible. The main objective is to make everyone happy and that we all have a really fun weekend together.

We begin on Thurs. at 7:00 PM in the main ballroom for a FREE night of open dancing - until the wee hours of the AM. Everyone is invited to join us - the more the merrier! Louie has most every song you can think of but bring your CD's just in case you have something special you would like. All demos of the dances being taught will be done the evening before. Thurs, about 9:30 or 10:00PM. We will have the demos for the dances to be taught on Fri. It will be the same for each evening after.

Registration packets will be ready on Thurs. night for those pre-registered. Registration resumes at 8:30 AM Fri. and classes will begin at 9:00. Classes are 50 min. long. Sat. workshops will again be 9:00 - 5:00. Sun. we begin at 9:00 and end at 3:00. Classes are continuous throughout the lunch hour. There will be a food court set up in the hallway adjacent to the ballroom. Breakfast items may be purchased from 7:30 thru 10:30, with lunch items available 11:00 to 1:00.

Dinner break on Fri. is 5 - 7 and Sat. the dinner/show will be 6 -- 8:30. The show will start at 8:30 Sat. Open dancing will be from 6 - 8:30 in the large ballroom for those having dinner. If you do not attend the dinner - you may still come in at 8:30 to see the show - dinner guests get priority seating. There will be a sign up seating chart to pick early or late seating for dinner 6:00 or 7:15. Two buffet stations will allow things to move very quickly. The food is awesome - some told me it was the best hotel food they had ever experienced.

There will be one ballroom primarily for Beginner dances. Several terrific Florida instructors will be in that room all weekend along with fabulous DJ Olivia Ray - playing all requests - mostly easier dances at night but she will be there all day long for open dancing when lessons are not scheduled. So there will be plenty for the Beg or the new dancer. One ballroom will be open in the evening for a review of all dances taught that day. Incredible DJ - Big Dave from the UK - will be spinning in that room - plus open dancing after the reviews. The great Louie St. George will be playing your requests and favorites all night long in the main ballroom. So there will be no lack of choice as to where to dance in the evening!!

We will be giving away a ton of free passes for events as well as other prizes. Don't forget to order a step book, and we are fortunate to have CJ doing his first-class, high quality work on the videos - so be sure to order one of those as well. There will be tee shirts there for sale - the logo is really adorable. Don't forget to sign up with me on Fri AM for the "fun" pro/am competition on Sat. at 11:00 AM. We will be able to take credit cards at the site on Fri. and Sat.

The staff and volunteers will be working hard for you and I will be available at all times if you have questions while you are there. Jennifer Cameron has been a super assistant - doing just about everything there is to do -- so be sure to thank her when you see her there. Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever or if there is any way I can be of help. See ya there!!!
